Onward, Bourne, To The Ballot Box! - Editorial

It took two nights, but Bourne’s Annual and Special Town Meeting is now squarely in the rearview. It feels good, but don’t revel in it for too long, because the work is not yet done.

Up next is the Annual Town Election, slated for Tuesday, May 20. In addition to selecting your preferred candidates for the various open seats in town government, Bourne’s voters will be tasked with answering a few ballot questions.

One such ballot question will correspond with Article 8 from Monday’s warrant, seeking $18.8 million for a new south side fire station. The vote of 297 in favor and 40 opposed ultimately approved the capital project for design and construction while simultaneously etching a debt exclusion question onto the May 20 ballot for residents to vote on.

If you missed Monday night’s Town Meeting, don’t worry; we’ve got you covered (see story, page one). Even if you were there, give our Town Meeting coverage a look; brush up on the details. Our goal is to give our readers the most comprehensive coverage of these important decision-making processes in the hope that they will then go out and use their vote and voice wisely, having been fully informed.

As we inch closer to the May 20 election, readers can look forward to the last of our select board candidate profiles, which we will print in next week’s edition, May 16. The other profiles can be found on page one of this edition and our May 2 edition.
